As you have read in my previous blog, we spent Thanksgiving away this year. It was fun to be away and not have to crazy day of cooking at home. I did however miss the crazy day too. Our typical Thanksgiving day goes something like this: get up early to put in the 30 lbs turkey; try to watch the parade; family arrives; get lunch out so everyone can eat something; finish all the side dishes; fight with my brother-in-law; put the finished dinner on the table; say a pray of Thanksgiving; eat; clean up; be insulted by the brother-in-law; make everyone leave and then clean it all up. Now, anyone who know my true identity knows the Hubs is a tremendous help. He spear heads the clean up and I normally do very little of it.
This year however, we very different (good but different). We got up, showered and where standing in Animal Kingdom at 7:45 am. We watched rope dope and then ran to Everest. We rode it 3 times in 20 minutes. Then we went to ride the safari, rapids, some other dinosaur ride; saw a show, and rode Everest 3 more times. All this was before 1 pm. We left the park and headed back to the hotel to get showered again and ready for dinner.
I had researched and came up with the perfect restaurant for us to eat at for "dinner" that evening. I had to go on the reviews from the previous year, but the Disney "gods" had a change of hearts and did not serve a Thanksgiving meal, they served the normal every day meal at this restaurant.
SO that meant... no turkey, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, or any of the other Thanksgiving foods. I got over it and we had a wonderful meal.
Then the fun began. We called home to talk with everyone. We had a wonderful conversation with my parents. Each child talked with each of them independently. It was nice...
Then we called the in-laws house where everyone else was having dinner. First it was not a convent time, so we called back a half an hour later. Then the Brother-in-law wanted to talk with each of the kids... OK fine, not a big deal... then when it was time for them to talk to everyone else, he insisted on speaker phone because he wanted to hear the whole conversation.... The kids complained to hubs and I that they could not hear their grandparents or anyone else in the room because dear brother-in-law was always talking.
When it was my turn, I demanded to betaken off the speaker phone and i would talk with individuals.
After hanging up, hubs and I decided to do some shopping... We hit Downtown Disney and made several Christmas gift purchases. It was fun and not to crowded until we hit The World of Disney store... Oh man, that place is so crowded and crazy!
So it was not are traditional Thanksgiving, but it was fun and yes, I would do it all over again!
